We live in strange times indeed when unelected Lords and Bishops are the greatest defenders of democracy. Yet on the 17th of January, they held firm and rejected late amendments by Priti Patel to the Police Bill which would have restricted the right to protest.
What they did not do, however, was defeat part 4 of the bill which outlaws nomadic life for all Gypsy and Traveller communities. In a matter of weeks, after the bill has received it's final reading in the commons, this is very very likely to become law.
