The Drive 2 Survive / Ando Glaso short film competition will showcase and encourage community film makers at Britain’s biggest and best community Gypsy, Roma and Travellers arts festival in Scotland in September. Jake Bowers reveals how you can take part.

For years Hollywood has shown Gypsies, Roma and Travellers to be the most dirty, criminal, and immoral people on earth, ignoring the truth that these are some of the world’s cleanest, most moral and most capable communities on earth.  

In September a short film competition in Scotland will celebrate the inside story of Britain’s diverse Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities. If you are a film maker from any of these communities, we need you to take part, enter your film and have a chance of winning the cash prizes.

The Drive to Survive short film competition will take place on Saturday the 13^th of September 2025 during the Ando Glaso Roma festival in Glasgow. It is for anyone from the Gypsy, Roma or Traveller community across Britain.

The short film festival will take over the mainstage between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday where up to 12 shortlisted short films will be screened. The audience will be able to vote for the winner. Those who are shortlisted are invited to come to the festival to pitch why their film should win.

The rules are simple:

·      Films must be no longer than 10 minutes in length

·      The must be made by, for and about the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community and celebrate our stories

·      They can be in any style, from music videos to video diaries or even animation.

·      They can be extended trailers for longer projects or even projects that are still being made

·      All suitable films will be shown online by Ando Glaso and Drive2Survive, but the winners will be decided by live online voting at the festival. The decision of the people is final!

·      High resolution video files of the finished films must be sent to: bowersjake02@gmail.com by September 5^th 2025

Remember 1^st Prize is £500 cash, 2^nd Prize is £300 cash, and 3^rd Prize is £200 cash
